STANDARDS AND NORMS

Standards and norms are important for commercial application of HTS cables as well as conventional equipment used in the electric utility. CIGRÉ has established a "Working Group 20, HTS Cable Systems" under Scientific Council 21. This is the first step toward standards for HTS cables.

The scope of activities is:

4 areas of study:

Timescale for the work is 3 years (11/1999 – 10/2002), but extensions are to be foreseen. Content definition of the work group is:

The WG 21.20 will start from the structure existing in standards like IEC 60840, and provisional IEC 62067 that takes into account pre-qualification tests for XPLE cables, and IEC 141 for oil cables.

The report will make reference to existing parts if this is applicable for HTS cables and try to adapt existing tests, if this makes sense. In case of new tests the report will describe the principles of tests and what the issues will be.
