Status of the Danish HTS cable project 19/3 2001

It remains to perform the cold acceptance tests and installation of the 30 m long cables, and the delivery and comissioning of a permanent cooling system designed for the full rating of the cable. The purpose of the installation is to gain experience from a realistic environment of the design, commissioning, and operation of HTS cable systems. The technology promises low-loss and compact transmission systems with power ratings that exceed what is possible with conventional technology at all voltage levels. Critical issues before the commercialization of this technology is the improvement of the thermal insulation, the reliability and maintainability of the cooling system, and the reduction of materials costs.
